2ND MILE

If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two. -Matthew 5:41

This verse is quite interesting! First of all, who would force someone to walk one mile...and surely who in their right mind would go the 2nd MILE?

However this verse is LIFE CHANGING for me!  It teaches us the Life Philosophy of three simple words:  AND - THEN - SOME!  Could you image if you applied those words to everything you did in life?  Your wife wants you to do some chores around the house, so you do them AND-THEN-SOME.  Your boss wants you to do something at work, so you do whatever he/she ask AND-THEN-SOME.  Someone you dislike asks you for a favor, you say sure AND-THEN-SOME.  You begin to workout, you save money, you give money, you devote some time, you help a neighbor...AND-THEN-SOME!  Why is this verse so HUGE?

During the time of Jesus, it was considered Roman Law, that if a Roman Solider was traveling on official business he could ask a Jew to carry his bag 1 mile.  If a Jew refused he would suffer a flogging and or a severe beating.  WOW...look at what Jesus is teaching here:  not only should the Jew go the one mile, he should go the 2nd MILE.

The first mile is the "got" to mile, the second mile is the "get" to mile.  The first mile is the Law Mile, the second mile is the Love Mile.

I encourage you today to adopt the AND-THEN-SOME Philosophy...go the 2nd MILE not just for those you love...but for anyone and everyone that God brings into your daily life.
